Invitation to test the free web application MediNorden

- introduction to Nordic languages through current news

In order to increase interest and understanding of the Nordic languages among young people in the Nordics, the non-profit association Språkkraft has launched the web application MediNorden (https://medinorden.org/).

The web application uses AI to create simplified versions of authentic news articles in Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish, and integrates language support directly in the text content.

The aim is to provide an accessible opportunity for consuming up-to-date news media in the Nordic languages among young people in Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Denmark, and increase interest in the neighboring countries' languages.

Media content is collected from open and verified news sources and media channels, and will be continuously updated to stay relevant.

The project is conducted with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers through the Nordic Culture Point program Demos Bildning.

We therefore invite all teachers and students who would like to test the web application and fill in a brief evaluation about their experience.

It is very easy, please just go ahead and use, and then evaluate MEDiNORDEN:

1. Go to https://medinorden.org and select the language for reading content, and your native language for translation.
2. The articles listed are simplified versions of current news articles from selected news sources. The original articles have been rewritten using simpler language with the help of AI. Select an article to read it.
3. Click on the text content of the article to activate translations into the chosen language for the words you click.
4. Click on any word in the article to get a translation of that word. If a translation is missing, click "Web dictionary" to use an external dictionary.
5. To read the original version of the article from the original news source, click on "See original".
